IN BLITHE HOUSE QUARTERLY Blithe House Quarterly, a prestigious online magazine, has accepted my short story “Mariel.” “Mariel” is the story of Alejandro, a young Cuban hoping to escape via the Mariel Boatlift in 1980. In one of the warehouses where Castro has put the “undesirables” he is allowing to leave—criminals, drug addicts, political dissidents, intellectuals, prostitutes, homosexuals—the young man, Alejandro, meets the long-imprisoned (though never charged), tortured, and long-harassed poet and novelist Reinaldo Arenas. Article Published in Print and Online I am one of two featured authors (though others will be mentioned) in an article by Ralph Higgins for Outlooks Magazine on women who write about gay men. And I find myself in rare company, as the other featured author is none other than the one and only Patricia Nell Warren! I would have been honored just to be mentioned on the same page with her, but to be co-featured is beyond belief. Outlooks is a GLBT magazine with 600 distribution points for the print version.
